Cleaning Hardwood
Hardwood timber floors are one of the most popular options for homes. They are know for being extremely long lasting, and many people like the look of natural timber.
But no flooring material is immune to stains and damage, timber floors included. Is is especially frustrating when hardwood floors are damaged, as they are expensive.
But there are usually ways to remove almost any stain off hardwood, hopefully without having to re sand the surface.

This is one of the most useful cleaning products, dating back for centuries. It is a good option when getting rid of stains on timber floors. Mix some baking soda with vinegar to make a paste, and then rub it in the stain with a sponge. When clean, wipe away the mixture with a damp cloth.
Dish Detergent
Dish detergents and warm water will clean many hard surfaces. Spot clean any stains with a bowl of detergent and warm water. The buff dry with a cloth.
Isopropyl Alcohol
Pen and ink stains are an annoying problem, and common if there are children in the home. Some isopropyl alcohol on a cloth will often deal with these quite effectively. Once the stain is gone, clean the alcohol away with warm water.
Phenol
Urine from pets or children is terrible at many levels. apart from the unpleasant smell it causes staining on many floor surfaces.
Use a 5% phenol solution to remove urine stains. It also neutralizes the odor. This is available at hardware stores.
Never use:
Avoid anything that is abrasive, like steel wool, sandpaper or scrubbing pads. Mildly abrasive materials can be used sparingly on waxed floors, but you must re-wax afterward.
Mops should never be too wet. Use damp cleaning tools, nothing soaking wet
Steam mops are bad for most timber floors. They cause the wood to misshape. Save steam mops for tiles and perhaps vinyl flooring.
